Karutha Pakshikal Murugan came to Kerala from Thirunelveli in search of a job. He now lives in a slum with three children - Mayil, Azhakappan and Malli who is blind. Murugan who makes a living by ironing people's clothes, is hopeful someday she will be able to see. He takes her to every free eye-care camp in the neighbourhood. His only support comes from Muthu Annan who makes pappad, his wife Kanakamma and daughter Krishnaveni. With his meager savings Murugan buys a four-wheeled push cart and moves around various housing colonies in town, ironing people's clothes. Every day he meets different kinds of people, some who show kindness, some who show sympathy, some who show arrogance and some who shower insults. Karutha Pakshikal There is a vast section of humanity living in the slums. They eke out a living doing odd jobs, picking rags, rummaging through waste heaps, begging and doing whatever it takes to keep body and soul together. They too are human beings, but society largely ignores them. Director Kamal turns his attention to one such slum in his new film Karutha Pakshikal. Karutha Pakshikal Mammootty's performance as Murugan in the film will be another milestone in his career, at par with his performances as Achootty in Amaram, Maada in Ponthanmaada and Vaarunni in Mrigaya. Mammootty's earlier films directed by Kamal include Mazhayethum Munpe, Azhakiya Raavanan and Raapakal. Karutha Pakshikal, which is being shot in Thrissur under the GV Productions banner, will be released by Alwin Film Company and Thriveni Movies.
