Keerthichakra is another film being produced telling the story of the armed forces. The difference this time is that the director of the film Major Ravi is himself an ex-serviceman and he knows what he is doing. For the first time in Indian cinema, real time personnel including senior officers from the BSF, CRPF and Kashmir Police play major roles in the film. Having earlier served in Kashmir, Major Ravi has been able to elicit the whole-hearted cooperation of the officers and the troops. The picturization therefore is likely to be more authentic. Mohanlal plays the role of Major Mahadevan, a fearless officer who commands a group of anti-terrorism commandos. The film depicts the harsh life of the soldiers, the stress they are under due to constant exposure to danger, the pain they suffer from due to long separation from their dear ones, the strong bonds that are developed in the course of their career, the camaraderie that exists among them and their single minded obsession with protecting the motherland. The film also tells the story of the firm friendship between Major Mahadevan and Havildar Jeeva (played by the Tamil actor with the same name).

The film is currently being shot in Kashmir. Mohanlal has a special trainer in the person of Joy from Amballoor whose responsibility it is to keep the star in military trim. Joy also has a role to play in the film. Once the Kashmir schedule is completed, filming will resume in Pollachi and Palghat. The film is scheduled for release on July 04. There are also plans to dub it into Tamil.
